Unique experience

The timing of the trip coincides with the best Yellowstone has to offer. We will stay in the middle of Yellowstone, in cabins near Old Faithful. A snow taxi will take us there. From Yellowstone West we will explore vast white landscapes by snow coach, which allows us to travel easily over the snow, ready for the best photograph opportunities. Being a group of only 9, we charter a bus for 14 people, so everyone has ample room for movement.

Pristine nature

With more than 9000 km² Yellowstone National Park is not only the largest nature reserve of the USA, it was the very first reserve in the world to be created, in 1872. The area consists of a series of woods, swamps and rivers and is located on a volcanic hotspot, explaining the many geysers and hot thermal springs. Especially during winter, it provides spectacular images, when the steam spurts out in the middle of the snowy plains.

The wildlife at Yellowstone National Park is unique. Numerous American bisons roam the pastures, joined by wolves, elks, white-tailed deer, coyotes and many other species. During winter, animals gather to conquer the cold together, which makes them more easy to find and photograph. We’ll focus on the American bison and on how to  capture it on image in its natural habitat. A unique opportunity!

Accessibility and photography

We will never walk a long distance, but the deep snow and cold, and long days will be a challenge. Everyone is welcome to take part in this trip, and with adapted clothing you will be able to conquer the cold. Fast cameras are a good choice, with lenses from 200mm to 600mm. Distances will vary greatly, with a few tame Bisons at a few meters distance to some who will only be captured in the distance. The trip is suitable for anyone who has a basic knowledge of photography, a healthy interest is sufficient. I will help you with personal advice and lots of patience once we are there.

Climate

Warm clothing is essential during this trip, because we will be outside a lot in very cold temperatures. I’ll be sure to inform you about the most appropriate clothing in these conditions. Expect a variety of temperatures, ranging from -5°C to -25°C, not taking into account the wind chill factor!

Lens covers will protect your valuable equipment. On an average day, we will take quite a lot of pictures, so extra battery power will be needed in the cold. Memory cards with lots of capacity are a must! I also recommend you bring your laptop with fast memory card readers and memory space. You will be amazed at how many pictures you will take in a single  session.

Accommodation and transport

In order to make the best use of our time, we stay in accommodation close to the best locations. Count on spacious double rooms with a bathroom. Single rooms are available as an option.

During this trip, our transport is always adapted to the conditions. For travel from one location to the next we use a spacious 4×4 all-terrain car. A snow taxi will bring us to the hotel from the park. We also charter a snow coach for 4 days, enabling us to get to the most beautiful locations even through deep snow. We can go  where we want and for as long as we want; a truly unique experience!

International flights are not included in the price, but we are  happy to help you to book these. Take into account an amount of 800 to 1200 euro for flights from Europe.

Experienced guide

During this trip to Yellowstone National Park I will be with you all the time. I’m very familiar with the species of the northern hemisphere and have experienced many trips in this part of North America during winter. Count on me to ensure that this intense photo trip will yield strong images and great stories. I am also very intuitive about how to capture the best landscapes and wildlife in the most beautiful way.
